Jony Ive is now Apple’s Chief Design Officer

Jony Ive, who has been Apple’s Senior Vice President of Design for many years has just been made the Chief Design Officer at Apple. The position was specifically created for him and the change was confirmed in an email that was sent by Tim Cook (CEO of Apple) to all the employees.

Jony Ive will be handing over the managerial duties of industrial as well as software design to Richard Howarth and Alan Dye respectively. On July 1st, Richard Howarth will become the new VP of Industrial Design and Alan Dye will be the new VP of Software Design. Howarth has been a part of the iPhone team from the first generation itself and Dye is most notably known for his contribution to the iOS 7 redesign and work on the new Apple Watch UI.

While Jony Ive is still in charge of the software and hardware designs overall, the new position will give him more time to focus on other aspects such as the design of Apple Stores and their new campus. In fact Ive will even be designing the tables and chairs for the new campus and not just the buildings themselves.

Design is one of the most attractive aspects of any Apple product. Over the years, Jony Ive has created some wonderful designs and we hope that he is able to continue the innovation from his new position as well.
