Phone Etiquette: Six Mistakes You Should Avoid

Image
Everyone everywhere is talking on their cellphones, and everyone everywhere has committed some form of bad phone etiquette in their lifetime. The use of cellphones is always on the rise, and more people are finding new ways to use their phone in an unattractive and ignorant way. The following are a few things that cell phone users do that is considered bad phone etiquette. 1. Talking too loud. A cell phone is just a phone. There is no need to raise your voice while on it. The people on the other end can hear you just fine. If you are on the phone in a public place (which is already a big no-no), you need to keep your volume to a minimum. Other people in your area don't want to be distracted by your conversation, and they also don't want to know the intimate details that you're sharing about your life. 2. Allowing your phone to ring during special events. Turning your cell phone off or on silent when entering a special event needs to become second nature. If you are goin...

Apple is overdoing a security check by bricking people’s iPhones and iPads

Image
Apple is getting flack for a security check in recent iPhone and iPad models that can disable all use of a device when it has been fixed by a non-Apple-certified repair person. Repairs to the home button on an iPhone or iPad, or even screen replacement—a relatively common procedure—can trigger the appearance of an “Error 53” message and disable any further usage. Apple says this error is the result of a security procedure that checks whether a Touch ID sensor in the home button—which enables fingerprint recognition—has been tampered with. “If iOS finds a mismatch, the check fails and Touch ID, including for Apple Pay use, is disabled,” Apple explained in a statement. “This security measure is necessary to protect your device and prevent a fraudulent Touch ID sensor from being used.” The risk is apparently that someone could tamper with the home button and circumvent the fingerprint ID system for unlocking a device or paying with it. That is reasonable, as John Gruber points out o...

9 Reasons Why You Should Buy An Android Phone Instead Of An iPhone

Image
Ever since telephone was invented it has undergone several modifications and new brands and operating system are being released every now and then over the years. These changes have been made to adapt to our various lifestyles, and phones have long since been digressed from the primary function (making and receiving calls) to much more complicated tasks. Among all the operating system being released and as far as mobile devices are concerned, Android and IPhone are the two most popular so far as they constitute more than 90% the smartphone OS market. You’ll agree with me that IPhone operating system (OS) is slightly better than the android operating system, I strongly believe that there is multitude of reason why you should buy an android phone instead of an IPhone. Without wasting much of your time, below are nine reasons why you should buy an android phone rather than an iPhone: 1. OPEN SOURCE PLATFORM: Nothing is sweeter about an android phone than the fact that it is an open...

BBM Introduces 'Like Button' For Display Pictures

Image
If you’ve updated to the latest version of BBM, you’ll notice a new feature recently included which I think it awesome but depict Facebook. This new features allows users to like display pictures (DP) and status update of their friends. This change is recent and if you’ve not updated your BBM to the latest, you need to do that to enjoy this latest feature. Atleast, it will make BBM now more interactive instead of just looking at the recently changed display picture, you can just hit the like button and move on. It works just like FB, you get to see the number of likes a particular DP has gathered and a notification will be sent to the DP owner to see his DP recent engagement.

T-Mobile set to launch the BlackBerry Priv on January 26th

Image
We call your attention to the entry for January 26th, which shows that to be the date of the BlackBerry Venice launch for the carrier. Venice was the code name originally used for the BlackBerry Priv, which is the Android powered slider manufactured by the company. Currently, those in the U.S. wishing to pick up the device have to purchase it unlocked from the BlackBerry, Walmart or B&H Photo websites, or locked down from AT&T. A Verizon version of the phone has just visited the FCC, and Big Red has already sent out a tweet saying that the Priv will be coming soon. T-Mobile hasn't been so open about whether it plans on offering the slider. Back in November, the carrier was said to be in talks with BlackBerry over the device. Since then, we've heard nothing. That is, until this tip just crossed our inbox. Other events mentioned on the calendar include the launch of a phone called the ZTE Avid Plus on January 20th, the same day that some price changes are apparently du...

How to take a screenshot on the LG V10 and LG G4

Image
The LG V10 and LG G4 are two of the top smartphones you can get at the moment: they boast impressive cameras, vibrant (but not necessarily color-accurate) displays with a Quad HD resolution and a custom Android skin that has improved a lot in terms of speed. Press the volume down and power key for a short while Both the LG V10 and LG G4 also have their physical keys on the back of the phone. So how do you take a screenshot on the LG G4 and V10? In fact, it's the same shortcut as on many Android phones: just press the volume down and power/lock key simultaneously. If you are crafty enough, you can even do this with one finger. You will know that you have captured a screenshot on the LG V10 and LG G4 as the whole screen will flash quickly and you will see a little icon appear in the notification tray at the top. The screen grab is then saved on the phone in the Pictures > Screenshots directory, from where you can easily offload it

Extend the battery life on your Microsoft Lumia 950 XL by not feeding Edge

Image
Smartphone battery life is one of several things that we humans just can't get enough of on this planet. On the new Windows 10 Mobile powered handsets, it appears to be a genuine problem. Take the Microsoft Lumia 950 XL. A 3340mAh battery is inside, and while that might seem large enough to power up the phone for a long enough time, there is the matter of a large 5.7-inch screen that needs to be lit up. And with the display carrying a QHD, 1440 x 2560 resolution, more power is needed. If you go to Settings >System >Battery Saver >Battery Use, you can see which applications are too demanding on your battery. Often, it is the Edge browser that is the culprit. Because the browser can run in the background, web sites full of ads or data that update in real time can munch away at your battery life. That is true even if Edge is not in use. Thus, it would make sense to expect battery life to improve if Edge could be disconnected from the network when not needed. There happens ...

Microsoft says update to Windows 10 Mobile is coming soon

Image
If you're not a Windows Insider, the prospect of updating your Windows Phone 8.1 powered handset to Windows 10 Mobile probably has you excited at the thought of running a brand new OS on the unit. Back in October, it appeared as though the update would take place in December. By last month, it was clear that Windows 10 Mobile wouldn't see the light of day until early 2016. Wireless carrier Vodafone Australia said that it is waiting for "bits" of the OS to test, and expects this to happen by the middle of this month. Another mobile operator, Movistar Spain, now expects to push out Windows 10 Mobile at the end of this month. Tweets sent out today from Microsoft's Lumia Support Twitter account reveal that the Windows 10 Mobile update will be taking place "soon." If we put together the comments made by the carriers with the tweets disseminated by Microsoft, it would appear that the Windows 10 Mobile update will start making their way to Windows Phone 8.1 p...

Larger battery coming to Apple iPhone 7 Plus along with 256GB of internal storage

Image
Slowly, rumors about the Apple iPhone 7 and the Apple iPhone 7 Plus are beginning to help us piece together the various features that will be available on the device. So far, we expect the next iteration of the iPhone to offer some sort of protection from water, and we also expect the 3.5mm earphone jack to be removed. An accessory for the Lightning port will offer a solution for those who want privacy while listening to audio. Touch ID could be embedded into the display, and the iPhone 7 Plus will sport 3GB of RAM. Another new rumor can be added to the list, this one also involving the larger screened iPhone 7 Plus. According to a report out of China published today, Apple will be offering a version of the phone with 256GB of native storage. That is double the 128GB that tops the amount of internal memory available on the Apple iPhone 6s and Apple iPhone 6s Plus. To put that in perspective, the OG Apple iPhone offered buyers 4GB, 8GB or 16GB of ROM. In addition, we now expect Apple ...

Google makes Android 6.0.1 official

Image
Android 6.0.1 is official. It isn’t quite a huge update in terms of features. You can expect a new set of emoticons, a security update and a few other modifications. As expected, Nexus devices will get it first – Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Nexus 6, Nexus 6P, Nexus 7 (2013), Nexus 9, and Nexus Player. After that, it is anyone’s game. So far, there is no evidence that Google’s Android One devices are given any priority in terms of software updates. Till now, Marshmallow has remained elusive to them. Factory images are already available for Android 6.0.1, if you want to update your devices the hard way.

Tecno Camon C8 Will be Receiving Android 6.0 Updates

Image
After receiving a lots of cussing, bashing and trashing... Tecno my sweetest favorite brand in Nigeria as graphically announced that one of its latest pocket friendly device Camon C8 will be getting Android 6 Mashmallow update come February. After receiving series of system updates in the past few months and now it is so glaring that it will be first of its kind tecno will be promising it's Camon C8 users Mashmallow update. However it is not clear if it will be an OTA or via the rigorous flashing method. I'm actually thinking how about other tecno users, will they be getting any system update at least in a lay man words "at all at all na him bad pass", if they can't get Android 6.0 updates, atleast tecno management should provide lollipop update for them. Tecno users, what's your take on this?

Find The Noise Level Of Your Surroundings With Your Android Phone

Image
If people have ever complained that you play music too loudly or you sometimes find yourself wondering if the noise level in the baby room is too high for an infant to enjoy a good nap, or you just randomly wonder how loud a particular place is, Deciber is a free Android app you might want to try out. The app is a simple, one screen utility that can measure the noise level of your surroundings and report the highest and average levels in decibels. It connects with your camera so that you can screenshot your screen to include your location. The noise level readings are superimposed on the screenshot that you can share with perhaps a noisy neighbor and make a compelling case for them to quite down a bit. Install Deciber and run it. The app doesn’t ask for any extraordinary permissions. The camera turns on by default and there isn’t any way to turn it off. The app is fairly sensitive and it does a pretty good job of measuring loudness picking up on a rise and fall in noise ver...
